Questions transmitted by UGICT CGT trade-unionfor 11.20.03 shop-stewards’/HRM meetingNoise abatement to improve working conditions in ADRIA tower
Colleagues from Boulogne moved recently to ADRIA tower and their comments concerning the building demonstrate that major problems remain six months after the arrival of first residents and employees. This is why this list of demands is dedicated to this single issue. Criticality order indicated in answers to our questionnaire is: 1) noise, 2)3) restaurant and tobacco, 4) common areas and services, 5) personal area in open plan offices. New residents in the tower declare that they are disappointed by working conditions which they expected to see improved and not worsened in a brand new, state of the art building. Most colleagues ask for partitions to allow them to concentrate on their work and to be relieved from ambient noise in open plan offices. Fire doors between office sections are banging very noisily. UGICT CGT requests that these problems should be solved and reminds HR management that partitions and offices equipped with doors are less costly than time wasted and delays in work performance due to poor working conditions. ADRIA restaurant: modification of the kiosk-system, request for additional employees to support restaurant’s staff, fast lunch kiosk, doors, persons invited by employees
New residents are unhappy with long waiting lines at kiosks, water units, etc. UGICT CGT asks the kiosk system to be switched to a self-service system, which would save time. For the time being, they ask personnel to be hired to support the restaurant’s staff. They ask that a kiosk should be dedicated to a fast lunch system. The restaurant is too small now that the tower houses all its residents. It’s a pity the quick lunch area has been turned into a VIP lunch area UGICT CGT proposes that residents should be allowed to choose either access to the tower restaurant or utilization of "tickets restaurants" (meal vouchers) accepted in all salad bars and restaurants in the vicinity of the tower. They ask Avenance to publish the results of their questionnaire to customers. They ask the heavy access doors to be kept opened or changed. They ask for the delivery of cheap lunch tickets for persons invited by employees. ADRIA - Smoking areas and hot and soft drinks dispensers
Smoke remains in hot and soft drink dispenser’s areas and non-smokers are thus prevented access. UGICT CGT requests smoking areas equipped with proper air conditioning system, separate from coffee rooms, to be installed on several floors. UGICT CGT asks when cup dispensers will be installed. Improvement of common facilities: mail room, conference rooms, office supplies, etc.
Employees and residents have been shocked by the poor conditions at floor RR (dirty walls, soiled tags, dreary environment and awkward situation of the mail room on a floor not easily accessed. UGICT CGT requests that mail offices for deposit/delivery should be provided at floor 10, 21, 30 and 38. They ask when will refurbishing be carried out on floor RR and when insulation will be provided from goods delivery (strip door or air curtain), accepted by HR management last month. Answers to our questionnaire indicate that there are not enough meeting rooms, or large enough conference rooms, and they indicate that a meeting room on floor 25 remains open. They signal that there are not enough colour printers, that Xerox machines are sometimes too distant, that corridors are already soiled, that air conditioning in toilets is inefficient, that it is a pity no recycling system has been provided for paper and Xerox toner cartridges. They ask sufficient facilities to be provided for storage of corporate services office supplies section in order to allow storage of large quantities to allow immediate delivery. Layout, work stations: improvement of office arrangements
Workstations are too close to one another, desk working surfaces are too small. There are not enough cabinets. On several floors, offices are so crowded that working conditions are unacceptable. Some offices are blind. Nothing has been provided to prevent stealing of personal items in offices (laptop, pocket computer, handbag). UGICT CGT asks for a skilled office layout specialist to be appointed to design office arrangements in compliance with ergonomics rules, instead of the present improvised system. Work stations should be installed ready for use: sufficiently large tables according to the job (larger desks for CAD consoles), operational telephone and PC, wheeled cabinets with lock and key for personal items, clothes racks or hangers, partitions, lamps and white boards upon request. Lifts in ADRIA tower (blocking, control buttons, steadiness, mirrors)
UGICT CGT notes that none of the improvements promised by HR management has been made yet. They ask that necessary work should be performed in lifts: new control buttons, improved steadiness, improved reliability to prevent any blocking, repaired mirrors. Problems affecting IT: failures, response time, hotline, inconsistent software versions
Notwithstanding the efforts of IT departments’ employees, problems remain. Server failures are frequent, response time is excessive, expediting is necessary for action after contacting the hotline, personnel assigned to these tasks being insufficiently numerous to cope with the number of calls and the problems met. UGICT CGT asks the Company to make efforts necessary to back present teams and systems in order to quickly solve these problems. On the other hand, UGICT CGT requests that working conditions on computers should be improved. Servers are often overloaded and fail. UGICT CGT asks necessary measures to be taken, modern computers to be supplied to all employees, suitable servers installed, and that software should be updated to ensure consistency. Insufficient information concerning the tower, insufficient orientation panels
Although top management committed to providing full information to Boulogne personnel concerning ADRIA building operation and concerning TECHNIP departments and services before they moved to La Défense, most answers indicate that employees did not get any information and met many problems once in ADRIA. They were surprised to find improvised orientation tips on A4 paper fixed on walls with tape, already torn out in many cases, posted by employees as an attempt to balance the deficiencies of official orientation panels which do not indicate the location of departments or names of persons, outside name plates on individual offices. UGICT CGT asks the Company to provide more information to allow the area looked for to be identified and to also identify the desk of persons when they are not present at their working station. Trade Unions information boards at entrance to working facilities in ADRIA tower in compliance with the French law and with instructions from Labour Ministry Authorities - Employees adverts notice board
Many answers from formerly Boulogne personnel indicate that there are not enough information boards. HR management wrote that the union contract is to be re-negotiated in the near future. UGICT CGT reminds the top management that the French law does not allow union contracts with corporations to include provisions lower than those granted by the law. So, whatever the contents of the future union contract, top management may not be relieved from its obligation to comply with the French labour law. So, UGICT CGT asks when will trade-union information boards be installed in ADRIA’s lobby since these boards must according to the law be installed at entrance to working facilities. French Labour Ministry’s local Authorities, Inspection du Travail, required in writing, for the second time, that TECHNIP should comply with this law. Besides, UGICT CGT requests when will employees’ adverts notice board be installed in ADRIA. Access to ADRIA car park: safer access
Access to ADRIA car park should be improved. UGICT CGT asks when will accepted modifications be carried out. Moving, air conditioning
Practically 100 % answers are satisfied by moving conditions from Boulogne. UGICT CGT requests other miscellaneous issues to be addressed: HVAC requiring fine-tuning, fax failures, poor safety information, telephone requiring improvements (memory, fast-dialling required instead of typing the whole contract number for every call). Aerial opposite Adria: potential risk assessmentUGICT CGT requests a risk assessment survey to be made concerning the presence of a powerful telephone aerial on the building opposite ADRIA. |
